Quick thoughts on comics: Justice League #1
I suppose I should really go back to where this whole new DC Universe started.
I am on the record as largely hating most, if not all of Geoff Johns’s work. I didn’t mind this issue. I like the slow start to set up a world that isn’t ready for superheroes. I respect the shrewd marketing move of having only Batman & Green Lantern in it, since they both have recent films out. I like that his Green Lantern is a dick because I hate Green Lantern. So this was the most tolerable thing Johns has ever written.
I am also on the record as largely loving Jim Lee’s artwork. It was Lee’s X-Men that got me into comics way back in the 90s. It was Lee’s move to Image Comics and WildStorm that introduced me to writers like Alan Moore and Warren Ellis. So I owe a lot of my comic book habits to him. And while he’s not pushing any boundaries here, it’s all really pretty stuff. I hope he can make his deadlines.
I may have found a Geoff Johns comic that I will be reading every month. Yikes.
