Quick thoughts on comics: Batman and Robin v2 #1
I like to talk a lot of shit about comic fanboys and their weird, irrational buying habits, but I have to confess that it’s hypocritical because I will buy almost anything Batman-related, regardless of quality. It’s why I’ll probably continue with Batgirl, Batwing, and Tony Daniel’s Detective Comics, even though they aren’t doing much for me.
So far, no one has been able to write Damian Wayne better than Grant Morrison. They always go too far in one aspect of his personality, the arrogance, the homicidal urges, whatever. But Peter Tomasi has come pretty close. And what Tomasi lacks in the Damian Wayne department, he more than makes up for in the Bruce Wayne parts of the book. I like the changes he’s made to Batman’s outlook on things and I look forward to seeing what’s next. Other than that, it’s pretty standard superhero stuff.
Patrick Gleason’s art is nice. There’s a bit of Doug Mahnke in there and just a touch of Kelley Jones.
