Quick thoughts on comics: Deathstroke #1
I can’t say that I’ve ever like Deathstroke, other than his appearances as Slade on Teen Titans Go. But this book wasn’t bad.
Kyle Higgins did a nice job of presenting Deathstroke with a solid motivation of trying to reclaim his spot as the #1 assassin in the world. It’s a simple premise, but it works. The thing that will keep me around is not involving the DC Universe as much. If the book is all about Deathstroke trying to pull off impossible hits, or taking out competing hitmen (and hitwomen) then I think I could enjoy this. If the Teen Titans show up, or if his weird kids show up, then I’ll probably bow out.
Joe Bennett’s art is pretty good. While Simon Bisley makes Deathstroke’s costume look a little crazy on the cover, Bennett does a good job of making a 90’s look appear restrained.
