Quick thoughts on comics: Demon Knights #1
Paul Cornell’s Demon Knights seems like a sister book or companion piece to Paul Cornell’s StormWatch, since, if I’m interpreting it right, StormWatch is the latest incarnation of what the Demon Knights will eventually become.
And the two books couldn’t be more different.
Demon Knights #1 accomplishes everything that StormWatch #1 didn’t. It introduces a cast of characters who are all pretty distinct from each other, it establishes a distinct, credible threat, and it puts them all in a well-defined world. This issue felt like a really good pilot episode of television, where StormWatch felt like a weird WildStorm fanfic.
Diogenes Neves’s art is very clean and fits very nicely into the medieval setting. Can’t wait for the next issue.
