Quick thoughts on comics: Grifter #1
I love WildStorm, and I was looking forward to this book, but I wasn’t sure how Grifter would fit into the DC Universe, since the DCU already has a lot of badass assassins, secret agents, etc., so the idea of making Grifter into a literal conman was okay with me.
But Nathan Edmondson didn’t really do a great job of making Grifter stand out as a skilled con man, or as a human being. It’s hard to pack a lot into 20 pages, but I almost would have preferred if the first few issues were of Grifter just straight up conning people, only to have him con the weird glowing alien things that showed up in this issue. It was sloppy, but full of promise, but I don’t like Grifter’s chances in this shitty comic market. Doesn’t help that the Grifter on the covers kind of promises the old, 90’s badass Grifter.
CAFU’s art is okay. I wonder where he got that name, though. All in all, this book felt rushed.
