Quick thoughts on comics: Resurrection Man #1
I never read Dan Abnett & Andy Lanning’s original run on the character, but after reading this issue, I think I’d like to. There was a confidence to the writing, in the way that they introduced the character and his abilities, and despite not telling us a great deal about Resurrection Man (like, for example, I don’t know if they ever mentioned his real name?), I have a good grasp of what he can do and why he does it. The fight scene in the middle is honestly the worst part, I would have preferred more world building.
Fernando Dagnino’s art is okay. There’s a scratchy, early Vertigo feel to it, but there are bits of it that look bad. Again, that fight scene in the middle wasn’t very compelling or easy to follow.
I’m not sure how much longer I’ll stick around. I might see if I can dig up some back issues, and maybe that will change the ambivalence I feel about this new series.
