Quick thoughts on comics: Catwoman #1
GEEEEEEEEEEEESH. What a turd.
Now, I’ve already gone over how Judd Winick is not my cup of tea when it comes to comic book writers, but this was bad, even for him.
Judd Winick’s runs on Green Lantern and Green Arrow weren’t great, but they were serviceable, kind of standard superhero stuff, and it was decent. His Outsiders was pretty good at the start. He recently did a quick little Batman story with Mark Bagley that was a little sappy, but again, not AWFUL.
But his two books in the new DC Universe, Batwing and Catwoman, are just not good fits for him.
For me, Catwoman was at its best when it was a noir book, like the Darwyn Cooke/Ed Brubaker run.
Guillem March is a weird artist. He is technically really good, and he draws the hot comic book babes, and there’s certainly a place for that, but here I don’t know if he’s intentionally slutting it up, or if that’s just the shitty script he’s working on.
My problem with this book is the writing. Dropped.
