Quick thoughts on comics: Red Hood and the Outlaws #1
Here’s the other low point of the new 52 after Catwoman.
But here’s the thing, I really liked the first bit with the prison break and the team up between Red Hood and Arsenal. I thought the idea of the two failed sidekicks teaming up and being mercenary action heroes around the world sounded like great fun, and Scott Lobdell could easily pull that off with tongue in cheek. I started the book thinking that I might have another pleasant surprise on my hands but then it got worse.
And it’s not even the slutty Starfire mess that ruins it for me, apparently she’s got amnesia, so while I think it’s a pretty tasteless and doesn’t seem to add anything to the story, I’m not nearly as upset about it as some other people are, it’s just dumb. It’s the weird bad guys at the end who just kind of didn’t interest me at all.
The art is okay. Kenneth Rocafort is an artist I like page by page and panel by panel. Some things look great and some things are a mess. This book started out great and wound up dropped. Too bad.
