Quick thoughts on comics: Green Lantern: New Guardians #1
I love Kyle Rayner. He’s always been my favourite Green Lantern because of the way he was written in Grant Morrison’s JLA series. His transformation from timid rookie to confident professional in those first 40 issues were great to read.
Kyle’s gotten the shaft a bit since Hal Jordan came back, and is constantly overshadowed by all the other Green Lanterns, who I guess are more popular. And it’s kind of cute to see that Tony Bedard has addressed here, and to see that Kyle also doesn’t really care.
I guess this team is going to consist of one member from each of the different Lantern Crops, with all the colours or whatever. The different coloured Lanterns is one of the dumber ideas I’ve ever heard of and hasn’t done much to improve my opinion of the Green Lantern franchise. But I did like the idea that this team is being thrown together more by accident then by some big recruitment drive.
Tyler Kirkham’s art is okay, I guess, but he doesn’t do well with the more realistic stuff. Anyways, while I’m a big Kyle Rayner fan, this is asking me to know too much about the last few years of Green Lantern history, so I’m out. Call me when Grant Morrison writes a Green Lantern book.
