Quick thoughts on comics: The Flash #1
Wow, here’s another pleasant surprise. When they announced that Francis Manapul would both write and draw this, I thought it was going to be a mistake. DC’s other writer/artist creators, Tony Daniel and David Finch were decent enough artists, but really shit the bed where story was concerned.
But here, though Manapul jettisons a lot of Flash baggage, which is an interesting choice since it’s the Flash’s baggage that caused this line-wide reboot to begin with, and really writes a story that lets him play with his art. There’s a lot of fun stuff to read here and he really captures the Flash’s speed.
Here’s another book I didn’t think that I would enjoy that really impressed me. I’ll check out another issue and hope it’s as much fun as this one.
