Video Game backlog update:
Before I made the resolution to not buy video games for 2012, I managed to score a copy of the Sly Collection for the PS3 for five bucks.
I had a hard time getting into 3D platformers. I never had a Nintendo 64, so I missed Super Mario 64. I couldn’t get into any of the PS1 games like Crash Bandicoot. I always felt that the controls were never quite there, so I largely ignored the genre.
I never played any of the Sly Cooper games when they were on the PS2, so it was a pleasant surprise to find that the first game in the series, Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus, is really quite fun.
The visuals are sharp and colourful. The controls are very responsive, which is a must for a platformer, especially a 3D one. The levels are short and sweet. I found a lot of the powers and abilities weren’t very useful or necessary.
The characters are all goofy animals, but the voice acting is pretty well done, and the story, such as it is, gets right to the point.
Good price for a great game. At least so far. We’ll see how the sequels do.
So, the Great Game Backlog project of 2012 currently looks like this:

Assassin’s Creed

Assassin’s Creed II

Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations

Astro Tripper

Back to the Future

Batman: Arkham City (new game plus, challenges, for Platinum)

Burn, Zombie, Burn

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow

DC Universe Online

Dissidia: Final Fantasy

Donkey Kong Country Returns

Final Fantasy XIII (I’m going finish all the hunts/missions and see if I can Platinum)

Hydrophobia

Ico

Infamous (evil playthrough)

Infamous 2 (evil playthrough)

Katamari Forever

L.A. Noire: The Complete Collection

The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker

Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4 (since The Woman has already completed most of it, I’m going to go for an easy Platinum :p )

Little Big Planet 2

Metroid Prime 2: Echoes

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door

Portal (from the Orange Box)

Portal 2

Prince of Persia

Red Dead Redemption

Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare

Shadow of the Colossus

Sly Collection: Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus

Sly Collection: Sly 2: Band of Thieves

Sly Collection: Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves

Sly Collection: Mini Games

Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together

Tomb Raider Underworld

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune (crushing playthrough, for Platinum)

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception (crushing playthrough, for Platinum)

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

The goal is to not buy any games this year. (But when Christmas comes around again, I’ll try to pick up the best of 2012 during year-end sales!)
